Going back to the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake era
Do you remember when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were big in pop music and denim on denim was all the rage? Well, that famous time between Britney and Justin is back in the news thanks to Spears’s upcoming book. Britney Spears had an abortion 20 years ago when she was dating Justin Timberlake because he “didn’t want to be a father.” There you have it. As you can imagine, people have very different opinions about these kinds of events because abortion is a very private and sometimes life-changing medical process. It breaks my heart to hear Spears say that this choice is “one of the most agonising things I have ever experienced in my life.”
A Surprise Turned Into Pain
Britney Spears autobiography, “The Woman in Me,” which comes out on October 24, talks about how she wasn’t upset about being pregnant, even though it came as a surprise. She really cared about Justin and always thought they’d have a family together one day. This was, however, much earlier than planned. She said, “But Justin wasn’t happy about the pregnancy at all.” He told us we were too young and not ready to have a child.
Being Heard Is Powerful
It powerful to talk about having an abortion, and it even more powerful when it someone like Britney Spears. She freed from a 13-year court-ordered care just two years ago. It’s very important to stress how important it is for people with disabilities to be able to get abortions and make their own decisions about reproduction. Britney wasn’t completely in charge of her life for a long time. It’s not easy to think about painful events again, but telling her stories in her own words gives her a sense of control again.
More than just a Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake story
This isn’t about putting Britney against Justin or judging the choices two people will never really know about family planning. Admitting how annoying to see Spears portrayed over and over again as Timberlake’s “crazy ex” crucial. It reveals a more significant issue: people have used women’s private lives and health to portray them as individuals lacking control or decision-making ability. Britney Spears intends for her autobiography, “The Woman in Me,” to mark the beginning of her journey toward the freedom to narrate her own stories in the manner she desires.
